Do you feel like you struggle to keep up from day to day? Do you often go through your day stressed out about what other problems might be right around the corner?

Today we’re going to be discussing a simple technique you can use in your daily routine to help you shift your mindset and take life on in a whole new way.
Have you ever noticed that once one thing goes wrong in your day, it becomes easy to believe that everything else that comes up that day will go wrong, too?
Often in life, on days when we’re feeling a little less confident, we tend to adopt a quicksand mentality in which we assume everything around us is a threat.
We approach everything in life wondering what else could possibly go wrong; our bodies tense up with each new item on the agenda; we walk around looking for the next surprise, as if the boogey man will jump out at any moment.
This actually happened to me the other day (which was what inspired me to tackle this issue). The situation involved a difference of opinion between me and one of my team members, and I found that worrying about it was severely impeding my other responsibilities and activities throughout the day:
– How is this going to affect our work?
– Are there going to be other issues?
– Is this going to derail our entire relationship?
Once I realized how toxic this thought pattern had become, I stepped back and asked myself what I needed to do to change that mindset and allow it to become a positive force.
That was when it hit me. What if this issue wasn’t a threat—but an opportunity?
The moment I even asked the question, my body began to relax, and my thoughts slowed down to a pace I could manage. Feeling that small bit of relief let me know I was headed in the right direction.
So, I made the conscious choice to decide that it was, indeed, an opportunity.
Then I thought, “What if all of the threats in my life were opportunities?!”
I didn’t need immediate solutions. I didn’t need to figure everything out right in that moment. I didn’t even need to talk myself off the ledge. I simply removed the negative association and saw the chance for something good to arise, and I instantly felt better.
The beautiful thing about opportunity is that it is literally always present.
Maybe the situation you are facing isn’t an opportunity in the sense that it will bring you recognition or money . . . but it is certainly an opportunity in the sense that it may provide the chance to learn and grow; it may provide the chance to solve a problem; it may provide the chance to prove to yourself that you have the ability to overcome adversity.
There are endless opportunities available at every moment—it’s your choice to discover which opportunity you want to take advantage of at any given time.
In any case, as soon as you make the conscious choice to turn a threat into an opportunity, you take away its power to negatively affect your life. As one of my mentors, Tony Robbins, used to say, “What if life isn’t happening to you, but it’s happening for you?”
This is just another way to think of that—what if a problem isn’t a threat, but an opportunity?
