3 Ways To Boost Your Self-Esteem

boosting confidence confidence building empower yourself love yourself self esteem boost self growth self love journey self worth you are enough Aug 22, 2024

Do you ever feel like you're constantly comparing yourself to others, unsure of your worth, or stuck in a cycle of people-pleasing? You’re not alone. In fact, most people experience the symptoms of low self-esteem without even realizing it. Social anxiety, the fear of rejection, and discomfort in your own skin are all signals that your self-esteem could use a boost.

The good news? You can raise your self-esteem—fast. In this post, I’m going to share three actionable strategies you can start using today to build genuine self-confidence and break free from the cycle of low self-worth.

1. Do Something Physically Uncomfortable

“Doing anything uncomfortable on purpose will boost your self-esteem.”

One of the fastest ways to improve your self-esteem is by doing something that feels physically uncomfortable. This could be a morning workout, a brisk walk, or even something as simple (yet challenging) as taking a cold shower.

Why does this work? It’s not about the physical results like getting abs or losing weight—though those can be nice side benefits. The real transformation happens because you’re proving to yourself that you can push through discomfort. Every time you get out of bed and exercise or push yourself beyond your comfort zone, you build self-respect, and that naturally raises your self-esteem.

Try starting small. Whether it’s a 10-minute walk or a quick cold shower, these little wins will make a huge difference in how you feel about yourself.

2. Fire Your Toxic Inner Coach

“The way you talk to yourself is probably pretty garbagey.”

How do you talk to yourself when you make a mistake? If you’re like most people, your inner dialogue is harsh, critical, and unkind. It’s time to fire that toxic coach living in your head and hire a new one.

A great coach encourages, guides, and motivates you to do better without tearing you down. So, how can you replace that critical voice? Start by catching it in the act. When you notice yourself being overly harsh, reframe it. Imagine what a positive coach would say. Would they berate you for a small mistake, or would they tell you, “It’s okay, let’s try again tomorrow”?

Changing your inner dialogue takes practice, but it’s one of the most important steps to building lasting self-esteem.

3. Clean Up the Garbage in Your Life

“Pick one thing that makes you feel bad and start there.”

We all have habits or vices that drain our energy and self-esteem. Whether it’s doom-scrolling late at night, eating junk food, or binge-watching TV, these behaviors make us feel out of control and ashamed. Cleaning up even one of these habits can work wonders for your self-worth.

Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to tackle everything at once. Pick one thing. Maybe it’s committing to better sleep habits or cutting down on social media. Focus on making that change, and over time, the impact on your self-esteem will be enormous.

You Can Change—Faster Than You Think

Low self-esteem is not a life sentence. By doing uncomfortable things, changing your inner dialogue, and cleaning up negative habits, you’ll start to feel more confident and empowered in your daily life. Remember, you’re not alone in this journey, and you can transform your self-esteem faster than you think.

Until we speak again, may you have the courage to be who you are and know, on a deep level, that you’re awesome.
