How To Win More To Boost Your Confidence
Jul 10, 2022Welcome! Here you are at the, “Get More Confidence,” channel . . . which means that you must be in the market for a serious boost to your overall confidence level and a general feeling of wellbeing.
Thankfully, you’ve come to the right place.
Today, we’re going to be discussing one very specific, yet simple action that will help you radically increase your confidence in as little as 30 seconds per day. Would you like to know what it is?
Win more.
Now, what do I mean by, “Win more”? Do I want you to run out and join a ping-pong club or start online gaming so that you can start racking up points? Unfortunately, no—that’s not the kind of “winning” I’m talking about.
Winning, believe it or not, often has very little to do with simply beating someone else (even though this is the typical factor associated with the term). For the purposes of confidence building, when we talk about “winning,” we’re looking for something that will feed your determination, boost your energy level, and help you make meaningful progress regarding the things that matter the most to you.
Here’s the thing:
When we win in something like a sport or game, we tend to feel a surge in confidence and excitement; we feel inspired to keep going; we get hungry for more wins.
Winning simply feels good. What the traditional kinds of wins can’t provide, however, is the deep sense of fulfillment that comes with enhancing your life in a meaningful way.
Unfortunately, most of us have been programmed to only let ourselves feel like we’ve “won” in these very specific, score-based situations. We’ve forgotten what it feels like to celebrate the little wins that come with everyday trials and tribulations—we’ve forgotten what it looks like to be winning at life!
That’s what I’m here to help you with today.
When I talk about “winning,” I am more focused on extracting the juice from your life wins—learning to identify them and unlock the unparalleled energy they provide.
Now, “life win” sounds like some kind of endgame toward which we’re supposed to be racing . . . but it’s NOT.
“Life wins” are simply those little every day (yet cumulatively life-changing) wins that might usually fly under our radar.
Here are just a few examples of what I might celebrate as a win:
- I might be someone who’s trying to include more nutrition in my diet, so I make myself a healthy smoothie for breakfast—WIN!
- I might be someone who’s facing a challenge at work, and instead of procrastinating (my usual go-to delay tactic), I jump right in a put my nose to the grindstone—WIN!
- I might be someone who’s incredibly shy around big groups of people, but I walk into the rowdy social gathering and say “Hi” to everyone anyway—WIN!
With those new “winning” parameters in mind, can you think of any wins you’ve experienced over the last couple of days?
Let’s take a moment to really think through this, because it can be fascinating how often we tend to dismiss our wins, either because they’re “not big enough to count,” or they’re “old news.”
- Firstly, no win is too small to recognize.
After all, taking small steps that eventually lead to giant leaps is what confidence-building is all about!
- Secondly, though, you can’t start dismissing wins just because you’ve been winning in the same way for a while.
Do you really think you don’t deserve to recognize your health pursuits just because you’ve been eating well and exercising for years, now? I would argue that you actually deserve to be celebrated even more for your consistency.
So, why are we so quick to dismiss our wins? Because we’re afraid of derailing our progress.
Often, we think that giving ourselves too much credit too soon will make us complacent and keep us from succeeding further.
That belief is poppycock.
To begin with, wallowing in the constant belief that nothing you do is ever good enough does not sound like high-quality, motivating fuel.
Additionally, though, recognizing your commonplace victories (even the tiny ones) can help you transform your self-doubt into permanent self-worth, which leads to soaring confidence levels.
Once you ditch the dirty fuel and start to take the time to identify your daily wins, you will feel inspired to engage in more bold actions and energized to take on more challenging tasks. If self-doubt is a real problem for you, then I recommend you check out my book, OMOS: On My Own Side. This is a great resource for anyone looking to quiet the voice of negativity that runs on a loop in your mind so that you can start to champion yourself with greater enthusiasm.
In the spirit of greater self-worth, let’s do a challenge! Over the next 30 days, I want you to write down ONE win per day. If you feel inspired, you can aim for even more. That’s it! Simply take the 15-30 seconds necessary to log your daily victory. Maybe even take an extra second to notice how that exercise makes you feel:
- Are you more energized?
- Are you inspired to do more?
- Are you feeling more pride and confidence in your abilities?
Remember: entering your win in the daily journal counts as a win, so you can never claim you didn’t have anything to write! You can learn to recognize your wins; you can learn to feed off of that newfound energy; you can learn to be on your own side; you can go after the life of your dreams!
Please take a moment to share your thoughts and questions in the comments below. What is one win you can claim from the last week? How will you hold yourself accountable for recognizing your wins in the future? What does this boost in achievement do for your confidence? We learn best when we learn from each other, so please share freely and often!
Until we speak again, may you have the courage to be who you are and to know on a deep level that you’re awesome.
