You Must Earn Confidence

Do you feel like confidence is something you either have or don’t—and that if you don’t have it, you’re just stuck? This belief, though common, is a total myth. Confidence isn’t something you’re born with; it’s a skill, or more accurately, a muscle that you can build. And if you don’t feel the confidence you want, there’s only one reason why: you haven’t earned it yet. Let me explain how you can change that.

Confidence Must Be Earned, Not Given

We live in a world of quick fixes. Instagram memes tell you to “just love yourself,” “believe in yourself,” and “give yourself confidence.” It sounds good, but it doesn’t work. After scrolling through those posts, you might still feel nervous, avoid uncomfortable situations, and compare yourself to others. That's because confidence isn’t an idea; it’s a result of action. The same way you build muscle by taxing your body through weightlifting, you build confidence by consistently taking action and pushing yourself outside your comfort zone.

"Confidence is a byproduct of action. There is no shortcut."

The Confidence Workout: Taking Action

So, how do you build confidence? What’s the equivalent of lifting weights for your confidence muscle? Simple—action. Specifically, uncomfortable action. It’s not about diving into overwhelming panic-inducing situations, but rather about leaning into the discomfort in small, manageable steps.

Imagine this scenario: You’re at a social event, and you don’t want to say “hi” to that person across the room. But what if you did? What if you just went over and said “hi,” even if it was awkward? By doing that again and again, you start to shift something inside you. Each time you push that edge, you prove to yourself that you’re capable, and over time, you start to feel more confident.

Progress Creates Momentum

The amazing thing about building confidence is that it’s not just about getting better at specific actions (like socializing or speaking up). It’s also about the mindset shift that comes with progress. Each small victory—each time you lean into discomfort—gives you momentum. It boosts your belief that you can handle more. And that mindset shift can make a huge difference in your life.

"Progress creates momentum, and momentum builds confidence."

Confidence Is Built Faster Than You Think

You don’t need to spend years practicing to see results. Confidence is unique in that it grows quickly when you take action. Within a week of leaning into discomfort, you’ll notice changes. And as you continue to push yourself, even in small ways, you’ll start to feel that internal shift. Your belief in your own abilities will grow, and you’ll become more confident in all areas of your life.

Inspiring Hope: You’ve Got This!

The beautiful part of confidence is that it’s within your control. You don’t have to wait to “become” confident or hope that one day it will magically happen. You can build it, starting today, by taking small actions that challenge your comfort zone. And remember, confidence is a mind game. The more you act, the more you believe in yourself, and the easier it becomes.

"You can actually build confidence way faster than you think, but you have to do the thing that is uncomfortable."

So, go out there, take action, and start earning your confidence. You’ve got this!

Until we speak again, have the courage to be who you are and know, on a deep level, that you’re awesome.
